News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

We're having a cookout & beer event this FRIDAY (August 18). The local Navy recruiting Chief's are the guests of honor. Starts in the early afternoon (2 or so) and goes until the last dog gets hung! It's a BYOB event, but if you'd like to bring some non-meat other stuff (rolls, chips, dip, veggies, pickles, japs, etc, etc) we'd sure be grateful! e-mail and I'll be happy to assign you an item to bring along. Don't miss this opportunity to meet the Chiefs and thank them for their service.

The Troya X-Tra cigars shipped yesterday! They should be here by Friday or Monday. Stay tuned for the upcoming event date! From the web: "Troya X-Tra cigars take this renowned Cuban heritage brand to new depths of rich flavor and aroma with a hearty blend of all Nicaraguan-grown, Habano seed longfiller tobaccos surrounded by a spicy Nicaraguan-grown Corojo wrapper. As the name suggests, Troya X-Tra cigars present an extra-flavorful smoke that's well-balanced, robust and complex." This cigar is NOT for the meek and mild!

Mysterioso - still have a few remaining from the recent (second) shipment.

La Caya cigars have arrived. These come in both mild and medium. Both the torpedo and the churchill are $2.40 each. This is a GREAT everyday cigar.

Still getting a delivery every day or two from orders placed at the tradeshow (RTDA in Las Vegas). Drop by to browse.

RTDA 2007 - As many of you know, the tradeshow (RTDA) will be held in HOUSTON next year! This event is NOT open to the public (it's a retailer convention). However, you also know that I have "spare" tickets available. Smoozing time has started. :-)

The $40/box cigars are gone. If there's enough interest, I'll see if I can get more. Call or e-mail to get on the list.

We have six (6) of the "stinky" ashtrays available. These are the deep stainless steel ones in use at the shop. Great for indoors and out. Come get one before they're gone.

The Chamuco event has been postponed until sometime late next month (September) due to an illness in the family on their end. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and we're looking forward to meeting them next month.

CHL (concealed handgun license) class - Anthony (instructor) has a couple of one-day classes coming up. e-mail if you're interested and I'll forward to him. Military is 50% off the State fee.

As many of you know, Chick's son, Scott, joined the Navy a few months ago. He's nearing completion of his training at Great Lakes. We're looking forward to seeing him when he's on leave sometime next month.

Big Al has officially left for college. He's getting settled in at Auburn.

SPADES! Mo, Chief Cooley, and Cliff R*U*L*E the game! Come on by if you're interested in taking a shot at the big time. Anthony is always looking for someone to join him at the "other" table.

News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

The BACK ROOM remodel job is nearly completed. The only (small) jobs remaining are installing a ceiling fan (to get the air moving) and a couple of trimmed ceiling tiles. So, if you're interested in holding a poker game or having a private meeting, this is your spot! Come by and take a look. Call the shop to schedule time.

BIG AL is leaving for Auburn this Friday. Thursday will be his last time in the shop for a few months. Come by this week, wish him well in college, and maybe drop a cigar or two in his ditty bag.

We received six bundles (boxes weren't ready, but who needs boxes?) of MYSTERIOSO churchills. If you missed out on the other shipment, or need to restock, come by the shop.

SHANE called (yup, it's been about a year since we last heard from him). He has a new baby girl and a wrecked truck (seems some LOL ran a stop sign out in BFE and he T-boned her). So, he's looking for anyone interested in "ink" (ie, tattoo). If you're interested, call and let me know so I can put a schedule together for him.

$40 BOX SPECIAL. Still have 8 boxes unclaimed from the shipment of 50. They're surprisingly good...mild to light medium. Call if you want a box or two.

MATTRESS DRAWING. I forgot to announce this a few weeks ago. Anthony won the mattress drawing.

New ZIPPO LIGHTERS are in with the new cigar-friendly zippo lighter fluid. Now you can use a zippo to light your cigars.

News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

    Cigar Show News

While at the RTDA in Las Vegas (last week), I met with a distributor that has just taken over inventory from another distributor who had suddenly/quickly gone out of business and was looking to quickly move some product.

I got a really good deal on 50 boxes of churchills and gigantes. Cigars have been well stored in warehouse humidor. Each box has 25 cigars. Countries of origin: Dominican Republic, Honduras and a few Nicaraguans. Various wrappers. These are medium bodied cigars (some a bit stronger, some a bit milder). The cigars have shipped today and will be here by next Tuesday (Wednesday at the latest). These cigars are from small manufacturers (ie, no Fuente's, Montecristo's, etc).

Here's the deal: $40 per box BY RESERVATION. You come in, prepay however many boxes you want. First 5 people to reserve are in group 1. Next 5 are in group 2. Etc. When the cigars arrive, group 1 gets first pickings. Then group 2. Etc.

This is $1.60 per cigar for churchill/gigante.

Phone reservations are taken with credit card.

This is a deal you really shouldn't miss. At the very worst, you'll have some inexpensive smokes to give to your circle of mooches...uh, I mean...novice cigar-smoking friends.

News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

To celebrate our new wholesaler agreement with Garo Habano, we're offering the Garo Nouveau line at BELOW WHOLESALE cost to our e-mail list customers.

One display tray of Nouveau (24 cigars) - $100.00. These cigars retail for $10.00 - $12.00 each, but at $100.00, you get them for $4.17 each. You'll be getting these fine cigars for less than what a retailer pays for them!

This is a limited time (now til March 15, while current supply lasts) and limited availability (160 trays total) offer. Since this was a special deal with Garo, this has to be a one-time offer.

Tray includes 6 each of Blues (5.5x54 Perfecto Grande), Jazz (6.5x54 Perfecto Grande), Salsa (6.5x54 Torpedo) and Flemenco (7x58 Figurado).

The Nouveau line is new and is very unique. The line has 4 distinctive shapes. All of the Nouveau line cigars are aged inside of wine casks. This is NOT a flavored cigar, but it has subtle flavors of the particular wine that they were aged in.

    JAZZ
As interesting as its name, this figurado has the same tobacco blend as the blues, but with a difference. The cigars are aged inside of the wine casks of fine Merlot. The result is a smooth, sweetly complex profile that is medium-to-full bodied.

    BLUES
A little fireplug, this innovotive blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Costa Rican fillers and binder, finished with a sun-grown Cameroon wrapper astonishes with its cool finesse. It is suprisingly complex, thanks in part to the fact that the cigar is aged inside the casks of fine Chardonay. It is nicely spicey, with a mouth-filling fullness that is never too-much.

    FLAMENCO
Medium-to-full bodied and full of surprises throughout its length, this is as complex as the music it was named for. The Flamenco is aged in Brut Champagne casks and yields a suptous, slightly herbal nose, and a wonderfully toast flavor with citrusy top notes, and a woodsy, nutty finish. Classic and Elegant.

    SALSA
The most recent, Nouveau Salsa, uses a popular European beverage called Panache, which combines beer and a citrus "7-Up" type soda.

Smoke Magazine's reviewers liked this novel line, also, giving it another 4.1 and deeming it "Highly Recommended" (Spring 2003).

News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest is coming Feb 23-25 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! The shop is one of the sponsors for the "Houston Proud Yeller Bellies" cooking team. Here's how it works: as a sponsor, we're allotted tickets to the HPYB tent (bbq, beer, drinks, live entertainment, etc). We then pass these tickets on for donations (this is a charity event). While the general public is always invited to stroll the cooking area, a ticket is needed in order to get into the sponsored tent. For more information or to reserve some tickets, please e-mail reply or talk with Cliff next time you're in the shop.

CHL (Concealed Handgun License) class: We're putting another one together. This will be a one day course on Saturday (in the next 3 or 4 weeks). Pre-registration is required. For more information (you know what to do).

News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop:

The Habanos cabinet cigars are in! Normal price is $8.25. But, they're $5.00 each thru the end of Christmas Day. And, "while limited supplies last".

Mark & Chris (football fans) are inviting other fans for Sunday and Monday games here in the shop. Uh, watching the games here. Hot dogs. BYOBeer, etc. Probably better to hoot and holler here than to annoy the wife/gf, eh?

Holiday Shopping Season (ie, your safe harbor in the rough seas of shopping frenzy) - we'll be open EVERY DAY (as usual). Same hours (noon - 10pm). We still have GIFT CARDS available. Also, on the 23rd, 24th and 25th, we'll have some pretty crazy "last minute" specials on cigars, humidors, etc. If you need a spot to "rest" (ie, hide out) while the wife/gf is shopping, feel free to drop by and relax. We'll even have a hot pot of coffee on.

(Note to Mark and Chris - please don't read this one.) Mark's B-Day is the 25th (woohoo!). Chris Chase (ORB Extraordinaire) turns -> 21 <- on the 29th. There's talk of doing something to celebrate (probably on the 29th since Chris can legally drink at that point). If you're interested in playing with the big dogs, call the shop or reply to this e-mail.

Wow! Mark won a game of cut-throat spades against Cliff and Allen last night! What a FRB. Congrats Mark!

    oh, and:

Most of you know Stephanie (the 4 year old who hangs out in the shop from time to time). If you'd like to contribute to her holiday, talk to Cliff (or just drop a buck or two in the gift jar next to the register) next time you're in the shop. If you're out shopping and want to add her to your shopping/gift list, educational toys for 4-5 year olds is recommended. Clothing size is 4T. Any gift drop-offs at the shop will be cheerfully wrapped and delivered.

Please consider downloading and running SETI@home on your computer. It doesn't cost anything...and it will help analyze radio telescope data. Full information and the download can be found at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu.

So, in the spirit of the cigar shop (having fun and doing events), I've created a "team" (Westbury Square Cigar Shop) where we can accumulate computing time and have cigar give-aways and prizes for participants. Once you download and install the software, go to "Community" to join the team (Westbury Square Cigar Shop).

Feel free to e-mail if you have questions (or problems with the download/install).

Bouré, also commonly known as Boo-Ray, is a gambling card game primarily played in the Acadiana region of Louisiana in the United States of America. News from Westbury Square Cigar Shop

Several people have requested that we put a poker tournement together. Since it's been quite a while since anyone has done a "Five Card Draw" series, we've decided to go that route instead of "Hold'em". Basic info: sponsored in part by Garo Habano cigars, no "rakes" (ie, ALL entry fees go toward prizes), flexible playing times/dates, multiple dates, table winner moves to next table until pool of players is depleted, busted players can re-enter the series. You don't have to be a card sharp to enjoy and win at Five Card Draw. Call and talk with Cliff if you're interested in playing.

    Padilla Cigars have arrived! (finally)

Habano Puros are also in. (full-bodied)

FRIDAY NITE SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: River Road Tobacco is one of our vendors located in New Orleans. Matt has been thru a LOT over the past three months and is getting his business back on its feet. Matt is visiting Houston THIS WEEKEND and we're putting a group of guys together to have a drink with him on Friday night. We might end up bbq'ing animal after a few drinks... If you're free Friday night and would like to meet and get to know Matt, please give Cliff a call at the shop to get your name on the list.

Lots of humidors on special thru the end of the year! We've got them on sale NOW (not like other stores that discount AFTER the holidays).

We received a few meerschaum pipes that sold out quickly. If you're looking for a pipe...or want to learn to smoke one...let us know and we'll put you on the "contact" list for the next batch. Cliff has also been busy with blending pipe tobaccos. Come by and check out the newest blends.

Featuring Garo Habano cigars: X Aniversario and Los Lectores.

    When: Friday, 21 October, 5pm - 10pm

    40% OFF

    Los Lectores

    Tasting Notes

Recalling a time when the great Havanas were known more for their finesse and complexity than for their eye-watering strength, Los Lectores is the most intriguing incarnation of the entire Garo Habano line. Los Lectores utilizes a unique Nicaraguan sun-grown wrapper to finish its remarkable blend of some of the finest filler and binder tobaccos the Dominican Republic has to offer. The wrapper adds depth and fullness to the rich, mouth-watering, spicyness of the San Vicente filler, giving this cigar a flavor that builds from a medium, citrus-tinged tangyness to a smooth, full finish. A great aroma and beautiful construction make Los Lectores a true pleasure to smoke.

  • Wrapper: Nicaragua
  • Binder: Indonesian
  • Filler: Lijero Cubano/Seco Piloto
  • Packaging: Cedar Box

  • DC 7.5 x 54
  • "C" Churchill 7 x 48
  • "T" Torpedo 6.5 x 52
  • "R" Robusto 4.75 x 52
  • X Aniversario

    Tasting Notes

"Garo's new X Aniversario cigars offer four Cuban-esque shapes (Salomon, "A", Belicoso and Toro Gordo). Aniversario X(10) is a full bodied, beautifully-constructed masterpiece, easily one of the finest cigars to come along in quite a while. The sun-grown Corojo wrapper finishes a complex and intriguing blend of the finest Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The result is a taste and structure almost indistinguishable from the fabled Havanas of the 50s and 60s. Bold, clean, and entrancing, the cigar is certain to find devotees from every segment of the cigar smokers' realm. The finest and the most exclusive humidors in the world will make room for the cigar."

Great news from the cigar shop!

One of our goals for the RTDA show (the annual cigar convention) in New Orleans was to establish "manufacturer's representative" relationships with a few of our preferred vendors. So far, we've reached agreement with Garo Habano, Extreme Cigars, Habanos Esplendido and Perfeccion Cigars, as well as River Road Tobacco Company (for pipe tobacco). We're reaching closure with four other manufacturers.

What this means to YOU is lower prices on the lines we represent.

Special deals: all Extreme Cigars...40% off! Garo Habano Cigars...40% off! Since we're the exclusive reps for these cigars in Texas, that's about what other cigar shops will be paying at wholesale! Box buys only.

We've gotten the first shipment of humidors from the RTDA in. Come in and get a GREAT DEAL on a humidor!

Perdomo speicals. One of our holiday specials was a Perdomo "buy 4 and get 1 free". We're extending this special due to positive response.

"Cliff's Picks" Several of the guys have been asking for recommendations for smoking 2, 3 or 4 cigars in an evening or weekend. As most of you know, I recommend that a subsequent cigar build on the one it follows. Rarely, if ever, should you smoke the same cigar right after finishing one of the same. So, I'm putting together bags of 2, 3 and 4 cigars with the goal of each cigar complementing the others.

Now that winter is over (woohoo!), we're planning a BBQ here at the shop for next Saturday (Jan 8). Featuring Cliff's "dino-burgers" (a MAN's burger!). If you're interested in attending, please call or e-mail (and get your "to bring" item assignment). Family is welcome.

Mark is interested in putting together a keg (beer, of course) party. If you're interested, give Mark a call at the shop.

We met Dale Fowler (who owns East Texas Honey Company) during the Los Blancos event. His honey is 100% pure LOCAL bee honey (NO added sugar like the brands in the store). We now have honey for sale at the shop (half pound, one pound and two pound jars).

We're putting some tournaments together! SPADES - BACKGAMMON - BOORAY - TEXAS HOLD'EM - CHESS. If you're interested, call the shop. Want to add another game? Call the shop.

Hope your holiday season continues to be safe and happy.
